The Canopy
They set off. The Valharian system was their heading. It was a quick 2 week journey. Löm looked back at their home Vivendë, with a feeling in his heart that he may never see it again. He placed his hand on the window as he stared down at the blue-green marble disappearing from his sight.
THE INTENTION
This one is from the same area as The Nest — same planet, different location. I wanted that sense of scale again, but without the glowing geometric pattern of the ritual. This one has the vibe of being right before something is happening. We're not joining the Researcher in the middle of something occurring.
THE DECISIONS
-
Perspective
Straight down, same aerial vantage as The Nest, but pointed at a different corner of the same forest. No ritual geometry here — just canopy, rock, and one figure. The absence of the light structure is the point. This is the calm before it, not the aftermath.
-
Light
A pool of warm gold sits in the lower right corner, unexplained, half-swallowed by trees. Everything else reads in flat, diffused daylight-green. That one warm pocket is doing the same job the red glow does in other pieces — pulling the eye somewhere the story hasn't gotten to yet.
-
The Figure
Tiny, red against the green, standing on a spire of rock that breaks through the canopy. Not doing anything. Just there — the Researcher, present but not yet in motion. The stillness is what makes it feel like a beginning rather than a middle.
-
Palette
Almost entirely green, layered — deep shadow green in the gaps between trees, bright yellow-green where the light hits the tops of the canopy. The gold pool breaks the palette just enough to matter without taking over.
THE RESULT
A companion piece to The Nest — same planet, same canopy, a different pocket of it. Where The Nest catches the ritual already in progress, The Canopy sits in the quiet just before. Two views of Vivendë, one world apart from where its stories are heading.
