The Waking

The previous keeper's notes contradict the site evidence. Either they misread the sequence or we have. One of us has set something in motion that the other cannot correct.

THE INTENTION

For this piece, creating a densely forested, heavily flowered, ritual site was my main vision. I wanted something that felt old, full of mythos, like it's been there for thousands of years, waiting patiently for this moment.

THE DECISIONS

  • Lighting

Strong sunrise vibes with this one, the sun blasting in from the right of the image, drenching that side in light. Everything else in a diffused light from the tree cover. The symbol under the orb emitting the teal light that has become synonymous with this series.

  • Composition

The orb is the star of this piece, nestled in the heavily wooded ritual site. The emissive symbol takes second notice here, your eye drawn down to the light. The figure is almost hidden in plain sight. They activated the ritual, but aren't an active part of what is happening any more.

  • Color

This piece takes the warm and saturated feel of The Parting or The Wandering, and mixes that with the tension and coldness of the teal color from Emergence. The red poppies command the ground area, with bluebells fingering out away from the ritual site.

THE RESULT

The Waking — final image

The final piece has a new vibe to it. Something has happened — we're on the opposite edge of a moment than we have been with previous work. It's still a beginning, but post-action. The Surveyor has awakened something here, and even they aren't entirely sure what.
